In a Nutshell: I visited North Korea in late 2014 and over 16 days ventured to all corners of this mysterious nation on one of the longest itineraries ever executed for foreigners. Here are 100 photos (part 1) taken during this visit to North Korea.

wow. I’m from California and that a place I will never be able to go. It was nice to see it threw your pics. They hate USA.
Wow, just looking at this makes me feel so sad. I feel trapped just seeing photos. The people who’s reality it is must be very strong. Not everyone is brainwashed like you think. They know something’s wrong, but they aren’t going to speak up, it will cost them their lives.
Beautiful Photos.
Have you tried searching your hotel room if it was indeed rigged?
I would love to visit North Korea someday.
Are you going to go to China? :D
Elliott Thanks for sharing these pictures! Amazing gallery! I invite you to go visit Brazil, theres too many worlds here.
Absolutely amazing! Pulitzer worthy! I always wanted to see what “modern day” DPRK looks like; even from the tourist perspective. I would love to see what photo journalistic approach you would glean from Cuba but that’s probably not exciting enough for you these days!
Cheers and thanks.
Absolutely fascinating! Having been to the DMZ in South Korea it was amazing seeing it from the other side. I remember seeing the Soju bottles with the snake inside in Seoul as well
What I keep noticing in a lot of the photos as well as video is what looks like a lack of people. Hotels always empty roads bare of cars and trucks. For the size and number of building you see there are not much foot traffic?
Great photos, thanks for opening our “western eyes” a little bit more to what life is like in North Korea! I’m wondering how you ever got these photos out of the country, and how were you able to go to places that most foreigners have not been? You mentioned in one photo that you were only the 2nd westerner to visit that grocery store. I’m fascinated by how you were able to have such access in this country.
loving the pictures elliot! its always fascinating and interesting to see how north korea diifers their own reality and borders away everything else. You are very brave to go in there and do what you did. Nobody tried to pick on you or try and pick a fight? Im sure you might have gotten the most dirtiest looks from all over. Thanks again for sharing your experience, its much appreciated !;)
