In a Nutshell: I visited North Korea in late 2014 and over 16 days ventured to all corners of this mysterious nation on one of the longest itineraries ever executed for foreigners. Here are 100 photos (part 1) taken during this visit to North Korea.

Very fascinating and interesting pictures from an unknown country. Thanks for sharing them!
Thanks for the photos and descriptions. I’ve always been so curious about this country, and reading your comment about where to find a tour has tempted me even more. I have a few questions that sprung to mind as I was reading:
Do they consider Canadians to be one in the same with Americans?
Will they treat me as a criminal for having tattoos?
How did you manage to hide the backup of your photos?
I really appreciate your work!
Your photos of Pyongyang are as I remember them, and your comments about the strict discipline are spot on. I know, I’m from there.
Yes indeed it is a “safe” tour so long as one follows the very rigidly-enforced rules, but for those contemplating a tour, all should be mindful that any departure from what is expected will result in detention and ejection of the tourist, and much, much worse for the guide.
All who would visit should be aware that in their hands are their own safety and quite possibly the lives of their guides. Other than that, my heart is warmed that thanks to your photo essay, many people can appreciate the natural beauty of the land, in spite of those who rule the nation that sits atop it.
Really nice photos, Elliott. Thank’s for sharing. I’ve read a few books about North Korea in the past months. Weird and curious place. I’ts really nice to see some things that i’ve heard about. If you come to Brazil someday and need any help, get in touch. Congratulations for the amazing work.
Great work … I have always been interested in the places that are hard to reach around the world. But N.K. is totally a different world … I would like to see you go to Russia …
Thank you for sharing these fascinating scenes of life and culture in North Korea. You rock!
I’ve looked at your photos more intensely than I looked at porn on the internet. Thank you for a great job of capturing the most elusive daily life that is nowhere near ordinary.
Nice pics, congrats from Brazil!
Those are great pictures, wow love them. The North and South boarder line etc. gave me the chills . You did a great job. Such a nice country and people I hope their leader changes, but I believe someday the air of freedom will blow through NK.
